What does COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE mean when discussing it in the context of technology and people? examples?

I am in an online course that looks at how media is used and its connection to intrsonal interactions, so any feedback you can give would be very helpful. I have a textbook definition, but it would be interesting to see what people perceive 'collective intelligence' to be. Thanks in advance!!
