Can I get bronchitis after I recovered from a cold?

I just had a cold, and my mom got sick right after me, so I don't know if she has my cold. However, she is sick with bronchitis now and I'm really worried I'll get sick. I have a SUPER important speech tournament this weekend that I cannot miss. Can I get sick? Anything I can do to keep myself from getting sick?
